SoLace

SoLace is a chair constructed from handmade shuttle-lace in braided cotton cord with a black, powder-coated mild steel frame.

Challenging notions of lace as delicate, fragile and old-fashioned, the scale and functionality of this piece give lace a new edge.  Displaying technical prowess, a special lacemaking tool was 3-D printed so that the lace could be produced at scale; a marriage of old craft and high-tech.  The resulting piece casts dramatic shadows and a striking focal point for any interior.

Ecological issues being of importance, the frame is constructed of mild steel as it is an endlessly recyclable material and cotton for the seat for its natural tactile qualities and links with the traditional craft of lacemaking.
